Discovery Philosophy & Mission Statement
Discovery Philosophy
At Discovery International School, we believe that every child is unique and learns differently from their peers. It is our aim for our students to discover not only how to learn, but how they learn. A love of learning is one of the most precious gifts we could give a child, and we hope to instill that in each of our students. With this goal in mind, we have created a holistic education that uses the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Program, coupled with a tremendous emphasis on music, art, drama, innovation, nutrition, and physical education. Although Discovery is not a Christian school, it is rooted in Christian values. We believe that faith is a big part of holistic education, and we will teach Christian values and educate our students on Christianity as well as the other main world religions. We also believe that making mistakes is critical to learning. We will create a safe space where we will tackle challenges head-on without fear and celebrate our successes as well as what we learn from our mistakes. It took more than 1,000 tries to successfully invent the light bulb. Each one of those mistakes was just as valuable as a success because they narrowed and focused the path of understanding and learning.
Discovery Mission Statement
Discovery International School aims to equip students with a solid foundation on which to stand that will prepare them for life beyond Discovery. At the core of this foundation are the principles of integrity, honesty, empathy, inquiry, creativity, hard work, teamwork, love, a love of learning, and a desire for truth. We hope to develop lifelong learners who will have the vision, insight, and skills necessary to first understand and then respectfully transcend cultural differences with influence, for the purpose of creating and shaping positive and peaceful change in our dynamic and globalized world.
